  • 01WHAT IS GLOW-IN-THE-DARK KAYAKING?

    Glow-in-dark-kayaking is a paddling experience in a transparent, LED-lit kayak with a Bluetooth Speaker. Illuminated Escapes is Toronto’s original glow-in-the-dark kayak company – the first to offer transparent illuminated kayaks on the water. Guests choose their LED colour, connect their playlist and paddle at sunset in Toronto, Brampton or Whitby.

  • 02IS GLOW-IN-THE-DARK KAYAKING GOOD FOR BEGINNERS?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes is designed for all skill levels. No prior paddling experience is needed. A mandatory 10-minute safety orientation is included before every session and free paddle lessons are available on request. Staff are always on site, making it safe and accessible for first-time paddlers of all ages.

  • 03IS KAYAKING A GOOD DATE NIGHT IDEA IN TORONTO?

    Glow-in-the-dark kayaking is one of Toronto’s most unique date night experiences. Couples paddle together in transparent LED-lit kayaks along the waterfront at sunset, with views of the CN Tower and Humber Bay Arch Bridge. Sessions run 100 minutes, giving plenty of time to explore and connect on the water in a one-of-a-kind setting.

  • 04IS ILLUMINATED ESCAPES GOOD FOR GROUP EVENTS?

    Absolutely. Illuminated Escapes – Toronto’s original glow-in-the-dark kayak company is a standout choice for birthdays, bachelorette parties, corporate team-building, date nights and proposals. Both Toronto, Brampton and Whitby locations accommodate large groups. Book in advance to secure your group’s preferred date and session.

  • 05WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY FIRST GLOW-IN-THE-DARK KAYAKING SESSION?

    Waivers are completed prior to arrival. On the day, you attend a mandatory 10-minute safety orientation, choose your LED colour, connect your playlist via Bluetooth and launch in a transparent illuminated kayak. Sessions are self-guided and run for 50 or 100 minutes depending on your booking.

  • 06WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR GLOW-IN-THE-DARK KAYAKING?

    Be prepared to get wet! We recommend wearing weather appropriate clothing, waterproof shoes or sandals and bringing a change of clothes. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat for daytime sessions. Please note only DEET-free bug spray is permitted on site. Your personal items can be stored in a waterproof dry bag available for rent or left at our check-in container at your own risk.

  • 07WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SINGLE AND TANDEM KAYAK?

    A single kayak seats one person and is available for daytime sessions only. A tandem kayak seats two and is ideal for couples, friends or parent and child. Tandem kayaks are the only option for glow-in-the-dark sunset sessions. Single kayaks are not available for individual sunset bookings at any of our locations.

  • 08KAYAKING VS PADDLEBOARDING - WHICH IS BETTER FOR BEGINNERS?

    Kayaking is generally easier for beginners. You are seated in a kayak in the water with better stability. Paddleboarding requires more balance and core strength as you stand upright. Both are available at Illuminated Escapes for daytime and sunset sessions. For a first time experience on the water, a kayak is the recommended starting point.

  • 09WHEN IS ILLUMINATED ESCAPES OPEN?

    Illuminated Escapes operates seasonally from June 1 to September 30th at both our Toronto, Brampton and Whitby locations. We recommend booking in advance as time slots fill up quickly during peak season. Same-day bookings are available subject to availability, with the online calendar closing two hours before each session.

  • 10HOW LONG ARE KAYAKING SESSIONS IN TORONTO?

    Daytime sessions at Illuminated Escapes Sunnyside Beach are available in 100 minutes. 50 minute sessions are available for walk-ins only, based on availability. Sunset glow-in-the-dark sessions are 100 minutes only. The 100 minute session is recommended to fully explore Toronto’s waterfront, paddle towards the Humber Bay Arch Bridge and take in iconic views of the CN Tower and city skyline.

  • 11HOW LONG ARE KAYAKING SESSIONS IN BRAMPTON?

    All kayaking sessions at Illuminated Escapes Heart Lake Conservation Park in Brampton are 50 minutes, including daytime and glow-in-the-dark sunset sessions. As the GTA’s original transparent kayak company, Illuminated Escapes offers a one of a kind paddling experience on one of Brampton’s most scenic natural lakes. 100 minutes sessions are available upon request.

  • 12ARE SINGLE KAYAKS AVAILABLE AT SUNSET?

    Single kayaks are not available for individual sunset bookings at any Illuminated Escapes location due to our emergency response procedures. Single kayaks can be accommodated for odd-numbered groups of three or more paddlers. Contact Illuminated Escapes directly at  +1 (855) 222-6214  to arrange this group sunset booking.

  • 13CAN I BOOK SAME DAY KAYAK RENTALS?

    Yes, same day bookings are available subject to availability. The online booking calendar closes 2 hours before each session. To book within that window, contact Illuminated Escapes directly to confirm availability. Walk-in 50 minute daytime sessions are also available on site based on current availability.

  • 14DO YOU OFFER LARGE GROUP OR CORPORATE BOOKINGS?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes accommodates large groups, corporate team building events, birthday parties and special occasions at both locations. Group bookings are subject to availability. Contact the reservations team in advance by email at reservations@illuminatedescapes.com to discuss group size, logistics and available session options at Toronto, Brampton or Whitby.

  • 15CAN I HOST A PROPOSAL OR SPECIAL EVENT AT ILLUMINATED ESCAPES?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes welcome proposals, birthdays and special events at all our locations. Additional arrangements including decorations are available for an extra cost.   • 16DO YOU SELL GIFT CARDS?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes gift cards are available for purchase online. They are an idea gift for date nights, birthdays, anniversaries or anyone looking for a unique summer activity in Toronto, Brampton or Whitby.   • 17WHERE IS THE ILLUMINATED ESCAPES TORONTO LOCATION?

    The Toronto location is at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, 2001 Lake Shore Blvd W, Toronto,ON M6S 5A3 along the waterfront, west of Sunnyside Beach. It is accessible by the TTC 501 streetcar with easy access from the Gardiner Expressway. Green P paid parking is on site, with weekday daytime parking free of charge. Get Directions

  • 18WHERE IS THE ILLUMINATED ESCAPES BRAMPTON LOCATION?

    The Brampton location is at Heart Lake Conservation Park, 10818 Heart Lake Rd, Brampton, ON L6Z 0B3, just north of Sandalwood Pkwy. Parking is $13.10 per vehicle for daytime visits and is not included in the kayak rental price. Complimentary parking is available for sunset sessions with a valid reservation.  Get Directions

  • 19HOW MUCH DOES PADDLING COST AT ILLUMINATED ESCAPES?

    Daytime rentals start from $40 for a single kayak, $70 for a tandem kayak and $40 for a paddleboard. Glow-in-the-dark kayaking sunset sessions in tandem kayaks are $130 for 100 minutes in Toronto and $80 for 50 minutes in Brampton and Whitby. All prices are plus applicable taxes. Parking at the Brampton location is $13.10 per vehicle for daytime visits and is not included.

  • 20HOW MUCH DOES GLOW-IN-THE-DARK KAYAKING COST?

    Glow-in-the-dark kayaking is offered in tandem kayaks only. Toronto sunset sessions are $130 for 100 minutes. Brampton sunset sessions at Heart Lake Conservation Park are $80 for 50 minutes. All prices are plus applicable taxes. As Toronto’s original transparent glow-in-the-dark kayaking rental company, Illuminated Escapes offers a one-of-a-kind summer experience not available anywhere else in the city.

  • 21WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL?

    Every rental includes a Bluetooth Speaker, paddles, a life jacket (PFD) and a safety kit with a whistle, 50ft rope, flashlight and bailer. A free 10-minute safety orientation is also included before every session. Waterproof pouches are available to rent or purchase on site to protect phones and personal belongings.

  • 22DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO GO KAYAKING?

    No experience is required. A mandatory 10-minute safety orientation is included before every session and free paddle lessons are available for anyone wanting extra guidance. Illuminated Escapes staff are available at all times, making the experience safe and enjoyable for complete beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

  • 23DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SWIM?

    Swimming ability is not required. All participants must wear a life jacket at all times on the water. City of Toronto lifeguards are on site at the Sunnyside Beach location and all Illuminated Escapes staff are trained in emergency rescue response to ensure the safety of every guest on the water.

  • 24WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT?

    Participants must be at least 5 years old. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the same equipment. A waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian on behalf of all participants under 18 before using any equipment at all Illuminated Escapes locations.

  • 25WHAT ARE THE WEIGHT AND HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?

    All participants must be at minimum 122cm / 4ft in height. Weights limits are 192 kg / 425 lbs per kayak , 115 kg / 253 lbs per paddle board. These limits apply to the total combined weight of all passengers in the same equipment.



  • 26IS A SAFETY ORIENTATION PROVIDED?

    Yes, a mandatory 10-minute safety orientation is provided before every session at all Illuminated Escapes locations. It covers paddling techniques, on-water safety rules and emergency procedures. The orientation is included within your booked time. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for check-in and completing your waiver.

  • 27DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?

    Yes, all participants must complete a waiver before using any equipment. Walk-in guests must present a government-issued ID at check-in. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian complete the waiver on their behalf before participating in any session at all Illuminated Escapes locations.

  • 28DO YOU OFFER PADDLE LESSONS?

    Yes, free paddle lessons are available following the mandatory safety orientation at all Illuminated Escapes locations. If you would like a lesson, arrive a few minutes early before your session. Lessons cover basic paddling techniques and are suitable for complete beginners, families and anyone trying kayaking or paddle boarding for the first time.

  • 29ARE PETS ALLOWED ON KAYAKS?

    Yes, small pets are welcome provided the combined weight of all passengers and the pet stays within the equipment’s weight capacity. Illuminated Escapes does not provide life jackets for pets – owners must bring an approved pet PFD. Please note that pet safety on the water remains the owner’s full responsibility.

  • 30CAN I BRING MY PHONE ON THE WATER?

    Yes, and at least one person per group is required to carry a phone on the water for safety purposes. A waterproof pouch is strongly recommended to protect your device. Waterproof pouches are available to rent or purchase on site at all Illuminated Escapes locations.

  • 31WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY KAYAKING SESSION?

    Bring weather appropriate clothing, waterproof footwear and consider a change of clothes as you may get wet. For daytime sessions, pack sunscreen and a hat. Only DEET-free bug spray is permitted on site. Personal items can be stored in a waterproof dry bag available to rent on site or stored at our check-in container at your own risk.

  • 32WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

    Illuminated Escapes has a 24-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the session start time receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of the reservation are not eligible for a refund. To cancel, refer to your booking confirmation email to manage your reservation.

  • 33CAN I RESCHEDULE MY BOOKING?

    Yes, rescheduling is permitted with at least 24 hours notice before your session. Rescheduling within 24 hours of the reservation is not permitted and no refund will be issued. Refer to your booking confirmation email and use the manage reservation option to select a new available date and time.

  • 34WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR THE WEATHER IS UNSAFE?

    Sessions may be cancelled due to rain, lightning, thunderstorms, winds above 20 km/h or unsafe weather conditions. Guests are notified at least 2 hours before their reservation by email. All weather-related cancellations are eligible for a full reschedule or complete refund at the customer’s choice.

  • 35CAN I TRANSFER MY RESERVATION?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes allows reservation transfers to another party. Contact the team by phone or email with your booking details and the name and contact information of the person you are transferring to. Transfers are subject to confirmation and must be arranged before the scheduled session time.

  • 36WHAT HAPPENS IF I ARRIVE LATE?

    Guests are expected to arrive on time. If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, Illuminated Escapes reserves the right to cancel your reservation with no refund. Arriving a few minutes early is recommended to allow time for parking, check-in and the mandatory safety orientation included in your session.

  • 37IS ALCOHOL PERMITTED WHILE PADDLING?

    No. Illuminated Escapes strictly prohibit operating any rental equipment under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any guest found to be under the influence will have their reservation immediately cancelled with no refund. This policy is in place to protect the safety and wellbeing of all guests and staff on site.

  • 38WHAT HAPPENS IF RENTAL EQUIPMENT IS DAMAGED?

    Customers are liable for any damage to Illuminated Escapes equipment or property. A credit card hold is placed before the session. Customers may be charged up to $2,000 for damaged equipment. If equipment is lost or stolen while unattended, the customer is responsible for full replacement costs at retail price.

  • 39IS PUBLIC STORAGE AVAILABLE?

    Yes, Illuminated Escapes offers non-motorized watercraft storage at our Toronto location for personal vessels including paddleboards and kayaks up to 13 feet in length. Contact Illuminated Escapes directly by phone or email to enquire about availability, pricing and how to reserve a storage spot.
